Engine: Service and Repair

1. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
2. Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under Precautions.
3. Disconnect battery ground cable, then insulate cable end with electrical tape, or equivalent.
4. Mark position of hood to hood hinges for alignment during installation, then remove hood from vehicle.
5. Drain coolant from radiator, then disconnect accelerator cable from throttle valve and common chamber.
6. Remove air cleaner assembly from engine compartment, then disconnect fuel rail supply and return hoses from fuel rail assembly.
7. Disconnect two ground cable terminals connected to battery support and right front frame.
8. Disconnect engine to engine cowl ground strap from back of left cylinder head.
9. Disconnect starter harness connector from starter motor.
10. Disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses from engine assembly.
11. Disconnect coolant reserve tank hose from radiator.
12. Disconnect transmission cooling lines from radiator, then remove lower radiator fan shroud.
13. Remove radiator fan, then radiator assembly from vehicle.
14. Mark position of all vacuum lines connected to engine assembly, then disconnect vacuum lines from engine.
15. Mark position of all electrical connectors connected to engine assembly, then disconnect engine harness from engine assembly.
16. Remove power steering pump drive belt, then the power steering pump. Position pump aside on inner fender.
17. Remove air compressor drive belt.
18. Remove air compressor retaining bolts, then position compressor aside with lines connected.
19. Disconnect heater hoses from engine assembly.
20. Disconnect two transmission cooling lines from right side engine mount.
21. Remove transmission assembly.
22. Using an engine hoist, or equivalent, support engine assembly.
23. Remove two engine mount retaining bolts from chassis, then the right side engine mount retaining bolts.
24. Remove engine assembly from vehicle.
25. Reverse procedure to install, ensuring to tighten to specifications.
