Differential Service Label Installation

BACKGROUND

SLXs equipped with a limited slip differential have a sticker attached to the rear axle housing that reminds anyone doing maintenance on the differential that a limited slip lubricant is required.

This sticker does not state that Honda Limited Slip Differential Additive must be added whenever the differential is drained and refilled. Without the additive, the differential may chatter during cornering (see service bulletin 96-020, Vibration and Chattering Noise When Cornering).

To remedy this problem, install the stick-on label included with this service bulletin.

DIAGNOSIS





1. To verify that the vehicle is equipped with a limited slip differential, check for a "G80" option code on the under-hood ID plate.

2. If the vehicle is equipped with a limited-slip differential, check the rear differential to see if the stick-on label has already been installed. If not, proceed to CORRECTIVE ACTION.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Install the stick-on label on the differential cover.

1. Clean the differential cover with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (3M P/N 051135-08984), or Honda Brake Clean (P/N PC-HBC265).





2. Peel off the backing and apply the label onto the area just cleaned.
