Updating the SLX PCM
The procedures in this service bulletin will be used and referenced in other service bulletins.
PCMs (powertrain control modules) in 1996 and later SLXs are programmable. The tool used to reprogram (update) SLx PCMs is a portable programming device called the Smart Cable.
When correctly programmed, the Smart Cable can read an SLX's current PCM broadcast code, decide if the code is correct and, if needed, update the PCM with another code. You can reprogram the Smart Cable using your DCS workstation.
This bulletin describes:
- How to Reprogram a Smart Cable
- How to update a PCM with a programmed Smart Cable
- How to Diagnose a Faulty Smart Cable
- Who to call if you have problems with a Smart Cable
