Wind Noise at the A-Pillar

SYMPTOM

A vibration or buzzing noise coming from the area of the A-pillar at speeds over 60 mph.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The rubber molding along the edge of the windshield is vibrating.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

3M Super Silicone Sealant: 3M P/N 051135-08662

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Seal the rubber molding to the A-pillar with adhesive.

1. To protect the paint, apply a strip of masking tape (minimum of 1 inch wide) to the A-pillar along the edge of the rubber molding.

2. Using an 0-ring pick or similar tool, pull the rubber molding away from the A-pillar. Apply 3M Super Silicone Sealant (see REQUIRED MATERIALS) under the rubber molding along the full length of the A-pillar.

3. Press the rubber molding against the A-pillar with your fingers to smooth it out and make sure it sits flush.

4. Allow the sealant to set for about 5 minutes. Remove the masking tape and clean up any excess adhesive with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner.

5. Repeat steps 1 thru 4 on the other A-pillar.
