June 1997Safety Recall: SLX Front Brake Line
Dear SLX Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
What is the reason for this notice?
Isuzu Motors Ltd., the manufacturer, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1996 - 97 SLX models. Some left front brake lines were improperly installed, so there is insufficient clearance between the brake line and the upper suspension. If the brake line rubs against the suspension, it can become damaged, resulting in brake fluid leakage. If this occurs, the front brakes may become inoperative, reducing overall braking performance without warning. This could result in longer than normal stopping distances and could lead to a vehicle crash
What should you do?
Call any authorized Acura automobile dealer and make an appointment to have your vehicle inspected and, if necessary, repaired. They will inspect the left front brake line to determine if the clearance between the brake line and upper suspension is sufficient. If not, they will replace the brake line. This inspection and repair will be done free of charge. Parts are now available. The repair takes about two hours, but please plan to leave your vehicle at the dealer all day to allow them scheduling flexibility.
