Driver's Power Seat Slide Moves One Inch and Then Stops (Supersedes 03-019, dated June 16, 2003, to update the information marked with asterisks)

SYMPTOM

The driver's power seat slide moves 1 inch and then stops when using the slide switch or the driving position memory system (DPMS).

PROBABLE CAUSE

The driver's power seat slide position sensor is faulty.

*CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the seat slide position sensor.*

Hondalock 2 Thread lock (one bottle repairs 100 vehicles):
P/N 08713-0002

REPAIR PROCEDURE

*NOTE:
Before doing this repair procedure, review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures:

SHS Component Locations:

- 2003-06 models, see page 23-16 of the 2003-06 MDX Service Manual.

Precautions and Procedures:

- 2001-02 models, see page 23-16 of the 2001-02 MDX Service Manual.

- 2003-06 models, see page 23-18 of the 2003-06 MDX Service Manual.

- Online, enter keyword PRECAUTION, and select SRS Precautions and Procedures from the list.

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio and navigation system, then write down the frequencies for the audio presets.

2. Adjust the driver's seat to its highest position at the front and rear of the seat.

3. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.

*4. Remove the driver's power seat:

^ Refer to page 20-77 of the 2001-02 MDX Service Manual.

^ Refer to page 20-91 of the 2003-06 MDX Service Manual.

^ Online, enter keyword SEAT REMOVAL, and select Front Seat Removal and Installation from the list.

5. Remove the seat riser from the bottom of the seat by removing the four nuts.

^ Refer to page 20-82 of the 2001-02 MDX Service Manual.

^ Refer to page 20-95 of the 2003-06 MDX Service Manual.

^ Online, enter keyword SEAT LINKAGE, and select Front Seat Linkage Disassembly/ Reassembly from the list.*





6. Remove the front cover (four screws).

7. Remove the three screws, release the clip, and then remove the center cover.





8. Remove the four TORX-head seat track mounting bolts.





9. Separate the seat from the track, and pull the track out so you have enough clearance to remove the seat track synchronizer cable without damaging the cable. Remove the cable.

NOTE:
Do not damage the cable; it is not available separately.





10. Remove the seat slide position sensor, and replace it with a new one.

11. Pull on the seat track so you have enough clearance to reinstall the synchronizer cable without damaging the cable. Reinstall the cable.

12. Reinstall the seat frame to the track. Reinstall the four TORX bolts, and torque the bolts to 8 to 10 Nm (6 to 7 lb-ft).

13. Reinstall the front cover and the center cover.

14. Reinstall the seat riser, and torque the four nuts to 47 N.m (35 lb-ft).

15. Reinstall the seat into the vehicle, and plug in the connectors.

16. Apply Hondalock 2 thread lock to the four seat mounting bolts, and install the bolts. Torque the bolts to 47 N.m (35 lb-ft).

17. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

18. Test the operation of the driver's seat slide by moving the seat forward and backward.

19. When starting the vehicle, make sure the SRS indicator comes on and goes off. This confirms that there are no SRS DTCs set.

20. Do the idle learn procedure:

^ Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are off.

^ Start the engine, and let it warm up to its normal operating temperature (the cooling fans cycle twice).

^ Let the engine idle (throttle fully closed and all electrical items off) for 10 minutes.

*21. For 2003-06 MDXs only: Do the power window reset procedure:*

^ Turn the ignition switch off, then back to ON (II).

^ Make sure the driver's window is fully closed.

^ Push down on the window switch until the window goes all the way down.

^ Pull up on the window switch until the window goes all the way up, then hold the switch for at least 2 more seconds.

22. Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio and navigation system, and enter the audio presets.

*23. Set the clock, except on 2001-02 and 2005-06 models with the navigation system.*
