Repair Procedure
1. Write down the customer's radio station presets. Make sure you have the audio system anti-theft code and the security code for the navigation system (if equipped).2. Make sure there are no CDs or audio tapes in the unit. If needed, refer to the owner's manual for the ejection procedure.
3. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
4. Use a 1 inch putty knife to release the three clips on the bottom of the center panel. Insert the knife about 1/4 inch and pry up to release each clip. Take care not to scratch the center panel or the dashboard.
5. Carefully pull out the bottom of the center panel to release the remaining clips on the side and top of the panel. Disconnect the harness connectors, then remove the center panel.
6. Remove the six audio unit/display unit mounting screws.
7. Disconnect the harness connectors and the antenna lead, then remove the audio unit/display unit from the vehicle.
NOTICE
The internal CD trays will be knocked out of alignment if the audio unit is turned upside down, causing the CD changer to no longer function. Always keep the audio unit upright.
8. Remove the ten mounting screws, then separate the audio unit from the display unit.
9. Put on the wrist strap. Plug the cord from the wrist strap into the ground receptacle of a grounded wall outlet or an extension cord connected to a grounded wall outlet. As an alternative, you can clip it to a bare (unpainted), grounded water pipe.
10. Remove the four faceplate mounting screws
11. Starting from the outside, use a small flat-tip screwdriver to unhook the three tabs on the top of the faceplate.
12. Pivot the faceplate forward and down to release it from the two tabs on the bottom of the audio unit. Remove the faceplate and carefully set it aside.
13. Hook the bottom of the new faceplate into the two bottom tabs. Pivot the faceplate up and snap it over the three top tabs.
14. Install the new faceplate mounting screws from the kit. Torque the screws to 0.41 Nm (4 lb-in).
15. Reinstall the audio unit to the display unit with the original screws.
16. Reinstall the audio unit/display unit in the dashboard with the original screws.
17. Install the center panel.
18. Reconnect the battery negative cable.
19. Enter the audio system anti-theft code. Enter the customer's radio station presets. Test the operation of the radio, the cassette player, and the CD changer. To throughly test the CD changer, you must load CDs into all six slots.
20. Enter the security code for the navigation system (if equipped).
21. Center-punch a completion mark above the third character (N) of the engine compartment VIN.
