Charging System and Brake Light Indicators Come On While Driving
SYMPTOM
The charging system and brake light indicators simultaneously flicker on and off while driving.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Electrical noise coming from the cooling fan circuit causes the indicators to flicker momentarily.
NOTE:
This electrical noise does not affect the brake system or the alternator output or apply to any other alternator problem.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the alternator.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Replace the alternator (see page 4-24 of the 2001-02 MDX Service Manual).
NOTE:
Do not use air tools on the 10 mm lower bolt. It is very easy to cross-thread the bolt and damage the engine block.
2. Do the idle learn procedure:
^ Make sure all electrical items are turned off, then start the engine.
^ Let the engine reach its normal operating temperature (the cooling fan cycles twice).
^ Let the engine idle (throttle fully closed and with all electrical items off) for 10 minutes.
