P0498
DTC P0498: EVAP Canister Vent Shut Valve Control Circuit Low Voltage1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
3. Do the EVAP CVS CLOSE in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.
4. Wait 5 seconds.
5. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0498 indicated?
YES - Go to step 8.
NO - Go to step 6.
6. Do the EVAP CVS ON in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.
7. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0498 indicated?
YES - Go to step 8.
NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the EVAP canister vent shut valve and the PCM.
8. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
9. Disconnect the EVAP canister vent shut valve 2P connector.
10. Check for continuity between EVAP canister vent shut valve 2P connector No.1 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 11.
NO - Go to step 14.
11. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
12. Disconnect PCM connector B (56P).
13. Check for continuity between EVAP canister vent shut valve 2P connector terminal No.1 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wire between the EVAP canister vent shut valve and the PCM (B8), then go to step 21.
NO - Go to step 14.
14. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
15. Measure voltage between EVAP canister vent shut valve 2P connector terminal No.2 and body ground
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 16.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the EVAP canister purge valve and the A/F sensor relay then go to step 21.
16. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
17. Connect EVAP canister vent shut valve 2P connector terminal No.1 to body ground with a Jumper wire.
18. Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal B8 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 19.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the EVAP canister vent shut valve and the PCM (B8), then go to step 21.
19. Measure resistance between EVAP canister vent shut valve 2P connector terminals No.1 and No.2.
Is there about 25 - 30 Ohms at room temperature?
YES - Go to step 28.
NO - Go to step 20.
20. Replace the EVAP canister vent shut valve.
21. Reconnect PCM connector B (56P).
22. Reconnect the EVAP canister vent shut valve 2P connector.
23. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
24. Reset the PCM with the HDS.
25. Do the PCM idle learn procedure.
26. Do the EVAP CVS CLOSE in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS, and wait 5 seconds.
27. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.
Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?
YES - If DTC P0498 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the EVAP canister vent shut valve and the PCM, then go to step 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC troubleshooting.
NO - Troubleshooting is complete.
28. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM.
29. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
30. Do the EVAP CVS CLOSE in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS, and wait 5 seconds.
31. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.
Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?
YES - If DTC P0498 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the EVAP canister vent shut valve and the PCM, then go to step 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
NO - If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM.
