REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE: Before doing any repairs or services, review the SRS components in this area.
- Refer to section 23 of the 2003-06 MDX Service Manual,
- or Online, enter keyword SRS, and select SRS Component Location Index and SRS Service and Precautions.

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio and navigation system (if equipped). Write down the audio station presets.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 3 minutes before continuing.

3. Remove the access panel from under the steering wheel.

4. Unplug the cable reel 4P connector from the driver's airbag 4P connector.

NOTE: When unplugged, the driver's airbag connector is automatically shorted.

5. Remove the two steering wheel covers. Use a Torx T30 bit to remove the two Torx bolts, then throw the torx bolts away. Unplug the horn wire, and remove the driver's airbag.

6. Install the new ground tab.
- Remove the upper screw from the steering wheel audio control switch assembly.
- Install the new ground tab, and reinstall the screw.

7. Apply a 15 mm x 15 mm piece of wool felt as shown over the lower mounting screw for the steering wheel audio control switch assembly.

8. Move the steering wheel audio control ground wire from its old location to the newly-installed ground tab.

9. Tighten the old ground tab so that it doesn't come loose and rattle or vibrate:
- Disconnect the horn connector.
- Tighten the screw. Reconnect the horn connector.

10. Reinstall the driver's airbag using new Torx bolts. Torque the bolts to 9.8 Nm (7.2 lb-ft).

11. Reinstall the steering wheel covers.

12. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

13. Enter the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system (if equipped), then enter the audio station presets.

14. Check the operation of the remote audio switches.

15. Do the idle learn procedure:
- Make sure all electrical items are turned off, then start the engine.
- Let the engine reach its normal operating temperature (the cooling fan cycles twice).
- Let the engine idle (throttle fully closed and with all electrical items off) for 10 minutes.

16.When you start the engine, check that the SRS system indicator comes on and then goes off after a few seconds.

17. Initialize the driver's window auto-up feature:
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Make sure the driver's window is fully closed.
- Push down and hold the window switch. Make sure the window goes all the way down.
- Pull back and hold the window switch. Make sure the window goes all the way up, then hold the switch for at least 2 more seconds.

18. On vehicles without navigation, set the clock.
