REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the old front brake pads and shims:

^ Refer to page 19-10 in the 2003-05 MDX Service Manual.

^ Enter keyword PAD, and select Front Brake

Pad Inspection and Replacement from the list.

2. Measure the brake disc thickness:

^ Refer to page 19-13 in the 2003-05 MDX Service Manual.

^ Enter keyword DISC, and select Front Brake
Disc Inspection from the list.

^ Note the measurements on the back of the repair order hard copy as indicated in the Service Operations Manual (Section 3.18).

^ If the brake discs are within the service limit, go to step 3.

* ^ If one or both brake discs are outside the service limit, replace the disc(s). Then, go to step 4.*

3. Remove the brake calipers, and refinish both front brake discs with an on-car brake lathe. Use the approved Kwik-way or Snap-on brake lathe. Do not refinish the front rotors off the car, because rotor runout cannot be adequately eliminated by this method.

NOTE:
For information on brake disc refinishing, refer to the operating manual for the lathe and to Service Bulletin 00-037, Brake Disc Refinishing Guidelines.

4. Apply a thin, even coat of Molykote M77 grease to the back of the new front pads and to both sides of the pad shims. Apply Molykote M77 to the end of the caliper pistons.

5. Install the calipers, the brake pads, and the pad shims correctly. Make sure the inner brake pad has the wear indicator on the top.

6. Test-drive the vehicle to make sure the brake judder has been eliminated.
