Exhaust System Droning at 2,000 rpm During Cold Weather
SYMPTOM
During cold weather, droning is heard from the exhaust system while driving with the engine at about 2,000 rpm.
PROBABLE CAUSE
In cold temperatures, the rubber exhaust mount transmits normal exhaust system resonance into the cabin.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the rubber exhaust mount.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Raise the vehicle, and replace the rubber exhaust mount that supports the center of the exhaust system.
2. Test-drive the vehicle with the engine at about 2,000 rpm, and listen for droning from the exhaust system:
^ If no droning is heard, or the droning is significantly reduced, the repair is complete. A slight droning in cold weather is considered a normal trait. Return the vehicle to the customer.
^ If the original droning is still present, proceed with normal troubleshooting.
