Audio System Whine When Using the CD Changer
(Supersedes 05-049, dated November 30, 2005, to update the information indicated by the black bar)
SYMPTOM
A whine is heard through the audio system when the factory CD changer is used.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The CD changer wire harness is integrated into the left floor wire harness and is picking up interference from other circuits in the harness.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Install a new CD changer wire harness.

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
DIAGNOSIS
Check that the noise is heard only with the engine running and while using the factory six-disc CD changer mounted under the driver's seat.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio and navigation system, then record the audio presets.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. NOTE: Take care not to scratch the dashboard console lower cover or damage the clips.
3. Remove the center lower cover.
^ Push the bottom clips back by hand.
^ Pull out the bottom of the center panel.
4. Remove the center panel. Take care not to scratch the dashboard.
^ Carefully detach the clips.
^ Pull out the center panel.
^ Disconnect all the connectors.
5. Remove the audio unit.
^ Remove the six screws.
^ Disconnect all the connectors and the antenna lead from the audio unit.
6. On the driver's side of the vehicle, gently pull out the center console lower cover toward you to release the eight clips, and remove the center console lower cover.
7. Remove the driver's seat front cover by pulling it toward you. Take care not to damage the clips.
8. Disconnect the CD changer connector.
9. Route one end of the new CD changer wire harness from the audio unit opening down through the center console.
10. Route the other end of the CD changer wire harness along the center console and under the driver's seat.
11. Route the CD changer wire harness through the slit in the carpet just under the driver's seat cushion. Pull the 14-pin connector out 300 mm from the slit.
12. Secure the CD changer wire harness to the left floor wire harness with a wire tie as shown.
13. At the audio unit opening, adjust the CD changer wire harness to the same length as the left floor wire harness.
14. Secure the CD changer wire harness to the left floor wire harness with three wire ties as shown.
15. Cut a 50 mm X 50 mm piece of cushion tape.
16. Using isopropyl alcohol, clean the area where you will attach the cushion tape. Attach the cushion tape at the edge of the center console as shown.
17. Connect the CD changer wire harness to the CD changer connector.
18. Cut the CD changer connectors off both ends of the original CD wire harness to avoid any future confusion.
19. Check that all wire harnesses are routed properly and that all connectors are plugged in.
20. Reinstall all removed parts.
21. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
22. Enter the customer's audio and navigation anti-theft codes, then enter the customer's audio station presets, and set the clock.
23. Start the engine, and test the CD changer.
24. Reset the power window control unit:
^ Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and make sure the driver's window AUTO function does not work.
^ Start the engine.
^ Push down the driver's window power window switch to the second detent (AUTO down) to lower the driver's window all the way down. When the window reaches the bottom, hold the switch in the AUTO down position for 2 more seconds.
^ Pull up the driver's power window switch to raise the driver's window all the way up without stopping. When the window reaches the top, hold the switch in the up position for 2 more seconds.
^ If the driver's window AUTO function does not work, repeat this power window control unit reset procedure.
25. Do the idle learn procedure:
^ Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are off.
^ Start the engine, and let it warm up to its normal operating temperature (the cooling fans cycle twice).
^ Let the engine idle (throttle closed and all electrical items off) for 10 minutes.
