MIL Comes On With DTC P0456

SYMPTOM

The MIL is on, and DTC P0456 (EVAP system very small leak detected) is set.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The PCM incorrectly interprets readings from the fuel tank pressure sensing system.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

NOTE:
The PCM software update in service bulletin 03-035, Emissions Recall: EVAP Control System, includes the correction for DTC P0456.

See if the vehicle has been repaired according to service bulletin 03-035, Emissions Recall: EVAP Control System. Do a VIN status inquiry, or look for a punch mark above the first character of the engine compartment VIN:

^ If service bulletin 03-035 has been done, use normal troubleshooting procedures to determine the cause of the DTC(s). And use the warranty information in this service bulletin (03-036) for retrieving and clearing the DTC(s).

^ If service bulletin 03-035 has not been done, refer to it for repair and warranty information. (The PCM update in service bulletin 03-035 includes the correction for DTC P0456.)
