Engine - Motor Oil Type Requirement
Always Use Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil or Equivalent in'07 RDXs
The exciting new '07 RDX joins the Acura stable next month. To ensure top-notch performance and long life of its turbocharged engine, this performance-packed, sport-luxury SUV needs a special breed of engine oil.
Because it's turbocharged, the RDX needs an engine oil that can hold up to blistering temperatures with the least amount of fluid breakdown. That's why Honda R&D came up with HTO-06, a tough new testing standard to ensure the engine oil that's used in the RDX provides the best possible protection against additive consumption, sludge buildup, and turbo deposits.
In exhaustive testing done by Honda R&D engineers, Only Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil met this new standard. Mobil 1 produced no critical deposits on critical engine components such as the seal ring, the shaft, and the turbo walls. Because of this, Mobil 1 was selected as the factory-fill for every RDX that rolls off the assembly line.
It's fully expected other synthetic engine oil brands will be introduced to compete against Mobil 1, but it's important to keep in mind not all synthetic engine oils will meet the tough HTO-06 standard. Use of any engine oil other than Mobil 1 or an equivalent that meets that standard can lead to reduced engine performance or durability, and can cause substantial engine damage that's not covered by warranty. Synthetic engine oils meeting the HTO-06 standard will say Honda/Acura HTO-06 somewhere on their container labels. The Mobil 1 container label will soon say this.
The top of the RDX's engine oil fill cap also includes an inscription reminding you of that requirement and directing you to the O/M for further details. Here's what's written on the cap:
So the bottom line is this: Whenever you're adding or replacing engine oil in an RDX, always use Mobil 1 or an equivalent brand that meets the HTO-06 standard (look for Honda/Acura HTO-06 on the container label). For top-notch performance and long life of the RDX's turbocharged engine, it's the best of the breed.
