Engine Controls - B-CAN DTC's Set During PCM Update

B-CAN DTCs Can Set During PCM Updating

Some early production 07 RDXs may set all of these B-CAN DTCs when you use the HDS to update the PCM software (PGM F1 or A/T):

^ B-CAN DTC B1168 (gauge control module lost communication with PCM [engine messages])

^ B-CAN DTC B1169 (gauge control module lost communication with the PCM [A/T messages])

^ B-CAN DTC B1170 (gauge control module lost communication with VSA modulator-control unit [VSA message])

^ B-CAN DTC B1173 (gauge control module lost communication with TPMS control unit [TPMS message])

^ B-CAN DTC B1187 (gauge control module lost communication with the SRS unit [SRS message])

If you find those DTCs after the PCM software has been updated, clear them and check if they come back. If they don't come back, the B-CAN system is OK. If they do come back, press on with normal troubleshooting.

Helpful Tip:
You can keep those B-CAN DTCs from setting when the PCM is updating by removing the No.23 (10 A) back-up fuse from the under-hood fuse/relay box before you start the update. Just remember, before you pull that fuse, make sure you've got the anti-theft code for the audio unit or the navigation system and write down your client's audio presets.
