In Gear (D Position) Shift-Shock Reduction
(Supercedes 06-027, dated August 11, 2006 to update the information marked with the black bars).
REVISION SUMMARY
BACKGROUND
The PCM A/T logic and transmission have been designed to minimize in-gear shift-shock when selecting the D position. This is done by engaging the 2nd clutch, and then releasing the 2nd clutch as the 1st clutch is engaged. This process happens very quickly and is seamless to the client, creating a smooth shift engagement feeling.
To further optimize the shift engagement in all ambient conditions, the PCM software has been improved for better control of the 1st and 2nd clutch engagement timing at lower transmission fluid temperatures*. This software improvement has been applied to vehicles after VIN 5J8TB....7A002336**. To ensure the same high-quality engagement feel for every RDX customer, the PCM software must be updated on vehicles produced before VIN 5J8TB....7A002336.
* Transmission fluid viscosity is affected by temperature. Higher viscosity of the fluid at lower temperatures affects the timing for engagement of clutches and the engagement feel of the clutch. The improvements in the PCM software allow for a high- quality in-gear shift engagement feel regardless of transmission fluid temperatures.
** Most vehicles within this VIN range have already been updated prior to delivery to your dealership. Updated vehicles have a small yellow dot on the windshield near the VIN.
