Amber Brake System Indicator Is On With DTC P16D9

REVISION SUMMARY
*Under WARRANTY CLAIM IN FORMATION, the flat rate time was changed because the MVCI updates control modules more efficiently.*
SYMPTOM
The amber brake system indicator (electric vacuum pump indicator) is on, and DTC P16D9 (powertrain control module [PCM] internal circuit malfunction) is stored.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The PCM misinterprets electric vacuum pump feedback as a problem with the electric vacuum pump system.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Update the PGM-FI software.

HDS Software Version:
2.018.016 (July 2009) (aqua) or later.
Control Module (CM) Update:
Database Update 24-JUN-2009 or later.
NOTE:
To avoid an incorrect repair that would not be covered under warranty, use the software version listed above or a later version.
The updated PGM-FI software program ID and P/N are shown below. If the HDS or MVCI is loaded with the latest software, and it displays No Update Needed during the update, the software for this service bulletin is already installed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
Update the PGM-FI software. Refer to Service Bulletin 01-026, Updating Control Units/Modules.
Does DTC P16D9 return after the update?
Yes - Check for fuel and emissions DTCs, and do the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.*
No - Return the vehicle to the client.**
** On vehicles equipped with a navigation system and AcuraLink (Technology Package models), once the software is updated and all DTCs are resolved and cleared, do the following steps to delete the stored diagnostic message:
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Select OK on the navigation disclaimer screen.
3. Press and hold the MAP/GUIDE, MENU, and CANCEL buttons on the navigation control panel for 3 seconds. The navigation screen displays the Select Diagnosis Items menu.
4. From the Select Diagnosis Items menu, select XM (HIP).
5. From the XM (HIP) menu, select XM (HIP) ECU. The Select a Diagnosis Item menu appears on the screen.
6. From the Select a Diagnosis Item menu, select Diagnostic Info.
7. From the Diagnostic Info menu, select the electric vacuum pump system message item. When the message appears, select Delete, then select Yes.
