DTC Troubleshooting: B1776

DTC B1776: Microphone Input/Output Short to Ground

1. Connect the HDS to the DLC. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

2. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and then back to ON (II).

4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1776 indicated?
YES - Go to step 5.

NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.


5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

6. Remove the roof console Service and Repair and the passenger's console cover. Center Console Removal/Installation

7. Disconnect the 20P connector from the roof console and the 22P connector from the HandsFreeLink control unit.

8. Check for continuity between body ground and HandsFreeLink control unit 22P connector terminals No. 9 and No. 10 individually, then check for continuity between the same terminals and HandsFreeLink control unit 22P connector terminal No. 20 (harness shield).

Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wires between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the roof console or body ground.

NO - Go to step 9.






9. Check the vehicle's trim level.

Does the vehicle have a navigation system?
YES - Go to step 10.

NO - Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit, Service and Repair and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit. Service and Repair


10. Disconnect navigation unit connector B (14P).

11. Check for continuity between HandsFreeLink control unit 22P connector terminal No. 22 and body ground.

Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the navigation unit.

NO - Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit, Service and Repair and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the HandsFreeLink control unit. Service and Repair
