Advanced Diagnostics - DTC P0243: Turbocharger Wastegate Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Malfunction

General Description
The turbocharger wastegate control solenoid valve is connected between the positive pressure piping and the turbocharger boost control actuator of the turbocharger. The powertrain control module (PCM) adjusts the positive pressure applied to the turbocharger boost control actuator with the turbocharger wastegate control solenoid valve and bypasses boost pressure to the discharge piping. As a result, the rotation of the compressor is varied to control the boost pressure to the intake manifold. When the return signal does not change as set by the output of the turbocharger boost control solenoid valve, and this condition continues for a set time, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type, OBD Status

Enable Conditions

Malfunction Threshold
When the return signal does not change as set by the output of the turbocharger wastegate control solenoid valve and this condition continues at least 2 seconds.
When duty is between 98 % and 2 % and there is no return signal for 2 seconds or more continuously.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
