Bluetooth audio does not work (without navigation)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first Testing and Inspection.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Check if the cell phone with Bluetooth audio functions normally.
- Make sure the cell phone is properly paired.
- Make sure the client's phone is compatible with the Acura HFL system. See www.acura.com/handsfreelink for more information.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Turn on the audio unit, and press CD/AUX button to select Bluetooth audio source.
Does it change to Bluetooth audio source?
YES -
Go to step 3.
NO -
Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation System) and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation System).�
3. Check if the Bluetooth device can be played.
Does the Bluetooth audio play?
YES -
Intermittent failure, the audio unit is OK at this time.�
NO -
Go to step 4.
4. Check Online at www.acura.com/handsfreelink or call the HFL support desk at 888-528-7876 to make sure the Bluetooth phone is compatible with the HFL system and that there are no known issues.
5. Pair and check the Bluetooth device function on a known-good vehicle equipped with Bluetooth audio.
Is the Bluetooth device normal?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
The Bluetooth device is defective or is not compatible.�
6. Connect the HDS to the DLC Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
7. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then back to ON (II).
9. Check the DTCs with the HDS.
Are there any navigation DTCs indicated?
YES -
Repair the indicated DTCs.�
NO -
Go to step 10.
10. Turn on the audio unit, and check for sound in each mode (XM and USB).
Is the sound is normal?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Go to step 14.
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
12. Disconnect the audio unit connector B (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.
13. Check for continuity between the audio unit connector C (14P) terminals and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector terminals according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.�
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
15. Disconnect these items:
- Audio unit connector B (14P)
- XM receiver connector A (14P)
- USB adapter control unit connector A (14P)
- HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
16. Check for continuity between the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector terminals and body ground according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit, the XM receiver, the USB adapter control unit, and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
NO -
Go to step 17.
17. Check for continuity between the audio unit connector C (14P) terminals and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector terminals according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 18.
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
18. Check for continuity between the terminals of the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector terminals according to the table.
Is there continuity between any of the terminals?
YES -
There is a short in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shield harness.�
NO -
Go to step 19.
19. Reconnect the audio unit connector B (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.
20. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
21. Check if the Bluetooth device can be played.
Does the Bluetooth device play normal?
YES -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections at the XM receiver or the USB adapter control unit.�
NO -
Go to step 22.
22. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
23. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.
24. Reconnect the XM receiver connector A (14P) and the USB adapter control unit connector A (14P).
25. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
26. Check the operation of the reconnected unit.
Is the system normal?
YES -
Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.�
NO -
Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation System), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation System).�
