DTC Troubleshooting: B18CF

DTC B18CF:

Right BSI Alert Indicator Output Error

1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B18CF indicated?

YES -

Go to step 4.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.�

4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

5. Disconnect the right BSI alert indicator 2P connector.

6. Measure the resistance between right BSI alert indicator 2P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.






Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Go to step 7.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between the right BSI alert indicator and body ground (G507).�

7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and within 3 seconds measure the voltage between right BSI alert indicator 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.






Does the voltage remain between 12 V and 1 V for 3 seconds after turning the ignition switch to ON (II), then go down to 0 V?

YES -

Replace the right BSI alert indicator.�

NO -

Go to step 8.


8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

9. Disconnect the BSI control unit 16P connector.

10. Measure the resistance between right BSI alert indicator 2P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.






Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Go to step 11.

NO -

Repair a short to ground in the wire between the BSI control unit and the right BSI alert indicator.�

11. Measure the resistance between BSI control unit 16P connector terminal No. 14 and right BSI alert indicator 2P connector terminal No. 2. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.






Is the resistance as specified?

YES -

Go to step 12.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between the BSI control unit and the right BSI alert indicator.�

12. Make sure the BSI control unit 16P connector is disconnected.

13. Turn the ignitch switch to ON (II).

14. Measure the voltage between right BSI alert indicator 2P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. There should be less than 0.2 V.






Is the voltage as specified?

YES -

Replace the BSI control unit.�

NO -

Repair a short to power in the wire between the BSI control unit and the right BSI alert indicator. If the problem is still present, replace the right BSI alert indicator.�
