VSA DTC Troubleshooting: 59
DTC 59:
BRK DIAG Signal High Voltage
NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information.
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
2. Check the brake lights without pressing the brake pedal.
Are the brake lights on?
YES -
Replace the brake light relay.�
NO -
Go to step 3.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
4. Check the brake lights without pressing the brake pedal.
Are the brake lights on?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Go to step 13.
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
6. Disconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector.
7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
8. Check the brake lights without pressing the brake pedal.
Are the brake lights on?
YES -
- With ACC: Go to step 9.
- Without ACC: Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit 46P.�
NO -
Go to step 22.
9. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
10. Disconnect the adaptive cruise control (ACC) unit connector Service and Repair.
11. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
12. Check the brake lights without pressing the brake pedal.
Are the brake lights on?
YES -
Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit 46P.�
NO -
Replace the adaptive cruise control (ACC) unit Service and Repair.�
13. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
15. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
16. Press the brake pedal for 3 seconds or more.
17. Check for DTCs with the HDS and the TSA warning come on.
Is DTC 59 indicated and TSA warning come on?
YES -
Go to step 18.
NO -
Go to step 22.
18. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
19. Short the SCS line with the HDS.
20. Disconnect the PCM connector A (49P).
21. Check for continuity between brake pedal position switch 4P connector terminal No. 2 and PCM connector A (49P) terminal No. 8.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the PCM Service and Repair.�
NO -
Repair an open in the wire between the PCM and the brake pedal position switch.�
22. Update the VSA modulator-control unit if it does not have the latest software. If the unit already has the latest software, substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit.
23. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then turn it to ON (II)
24. Press the brake pedal for 3 seconds or more.
25. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 59 indicated?
YES -
Check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector. Check for a loose connection at G303. If the VSA modulator-control unit was updated, substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit, then retest. If the VSA modulator-control unit was substituted, go to step 1.
NO -
If the VSA modulator-control unit was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the VSA modulator-control unit was substituted, replace the original VSA modulator-control unit. If any other DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTCs troubleshooting.�
