Advanced Diagnostics - DTC P0034: Turbocharger Bypass Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Low Voltage

General Description
The turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve is activated by the powertrain control module (PCM) to control the turbocharger bypass control valve timing to improve boost response during acceleration immediately after deceleration and boost pressure decrease during deceleration. The turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve is normally closed (negative pressure side). When the return signal is open, even though the PCM outputs a close signal to the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type, OBD Status

Enable Conditions

Malfunction Threshold
When the return signal is open and this condition continues at least 5 seconds, though the close signal is output to the turbocharger bypass control solenoid valve.

Confirmation Procedure with the HDS
Select the TURBOCHARGER BYPASS CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE ON in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
