DTC Troubleshooting: P16E0

DTC P16E0:

Electric Vacuum Pump Relays 1/2 Signal Circuit Malfunction (Open)

1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

2. Check the No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in the auxiliary underhood fuse/relay box.

Is the fuse blown?

YES -

Repair a short in the wire between the electric vacuum pump relays 1 and 2 and the No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box. Replace the No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse, and recheck.

NO -

Go to step 3.

3. Remove the No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse from the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box.

4. Remove electric vacuum pump relay 1.

5. Check for continuity between electric vacuum pump relay 1 terminal No. 1 and the No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box terminal No. 1.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 6.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between electric vacuum pump relay 1 and the No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box.

6. Short the SCS line with the HDS.

7. Disconnect PCM connector B (44P) Service and Repair.

8. Measure the resistance between the No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box terminal No. 2 and PCM connector B (44P) terminal No. 29.





Is there about 47 Ohms?

YES -

Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software PCM Update, or substitute a known-good PCM, then go to step 1 and recheck. If no DTCs are indicated, and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM Service and Repair.

NO -

Go to step 9.

9. Disconnect under-dash fuse/relay box connector R (20P).

10. Check for continuity between the No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box terminal No. 2 and under-dash fuse/relay box connector R (20P) terminal No. 5.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 11.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between the No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box and the under-dash fuse/relay box (MICU).

11. Check for continuity between under-dash fuse/relay box connector R (20P) terminal No. 4 and PCM connector B (44P) terminal No. 29.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Replace the under-dash fuse/ relay box (MICU) Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between the under-dash fuse/relay box (MICU) and the PCM.
