Electrical Compass Zone Selection and Calibration

Set the compass zone

NOTE:

- Do this procedure any time the electrical compass unit is replaced.
- Do this procedure in an open area away from buildings, power lines, and other vehicles.
- If you see "-- " in the compass display and the CAL indicator is shown in the display, the electrical compass unit is self calibrating.
- The electrical compass unit may need to be manually calibrated after exposure to a strong magnetic field. If the electrical compass seems to be continually showing the wrong direction and is not self-calibrating, do the following procedure.
- In most areas, there is a variation between magnetic north and true north. The electrical compass zone needs to be set to your geographic zone to compensate for this variation.

1. Check the No. 23 (10 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box. Then check the No. 10 (7.5A) fuse and the No. 35 (7.5 A) fuses in the under-dash fuse/relay box

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then press and hold the RPT button (A) and SOUND button (B) on the audio switch panel for about 5 seconds until you hear a beep. The display shows the electrical compass setting menu items.

3. When COMPASS SET is displayed, press the No. 2 button on the audio switch panel.

4. Press the preset No. 2 button on the audio switch panel and the current zone will be displayed.

5. Compare the zone setting displayed to the map. If the zone is incorrect, use the preset No. 1 or No. 2 buttons to select the proper zone.

6. Lock in the select zone by pressing the preset No. 3 button.

Check the Compass Calibration

Although the electrical compass unit is self calibrating, it may need to be manually calibrated after exposure to a strong magnetic field. If the electrical compass is blinking and CAL is shown on the display, do this to calibrate the electrical compass unit:

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Press and hold the RPT button (A) and SOUND (B) button until you hear a beep. The display shows the electrical compass setting menu on the audio switch panel for about 5 seconds until you items.

3. When COMPASS SET is displayed, press the No. 1 button on the audio switch panel.

4. When CALIBRATION is displayed, press the preset No. 1 button on the audio switch panel and azimuth display will start blinking, and CAL is displayed.

5. If the azimuth display does not blink and CAL disappears from the display, the calibration is complete.

6. Drive the vehicle slowly in two complete circles. When the calibration is successfully completed, the compass display stops blinking and the CAL indicator goes off.

NOTE:

- The audio system is not related to the electrical compass system. Even if the electrical compass system is calibrating, the display returns to the normal display which was last selected.

- Do this procedure in an-open area, away from buildings, other vehicle, and any other sources of strong magnetic fields.
