Dashboard/Steering Hanger Beam Removal/Installation

NOTE:
- Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard/steering hanger beam.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
- Take care not to scratch the dashboard or the related parts.
1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
2. Remove these items:
- Front seats, both sides Front Seat Removal / Installation
- Center console Center Console Removal / Installation
- Steering column Steering Column Removal/Installation
- Glove box Glove Box Removal / Installation
- Driver's dashboard undercover Driver's Dashboard Undercover Removal / Installation
- Passenger's dashboard undercover Passenger's Dashboard Undercover Removal / Installation
- In-car temperature sensor Service and Repair
- A-pillar trim, both sides
- Kick panels, both sides
- Dashboard side lid, passenger's side
Driver's side
3. From under the dash, disconnect the left side wire harness connectors (A), the engine compartment wire harness connectors (B), and the moonroof wire harness connector (C). Detach the connector clip.
4. From under the dash, disconnect the driver's door wire harness connectors (A), the left TPMS subharness connector (B), and the moonroof wire harness connector (C) (without navigation).
Middle portion
5. From under the dash, disconnect the A/T gear position indicator panel light/park pin switch connector (B), the A/T shift lock solenoid connector (C), SRS unit connector A, the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor connector (D), and the SRS wire harness connector (E).
6. From under the dash, disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit connector (A). Remove the ground bolt (B) with a TORX T30 bit, and detach the wire harness clips (C).
7. Disconnect the USB adapter control unit 14P connector.
Passenger's side
8. From under the dash, disconnect the XM receiver connector or AcuraLink control unit connector (with navigation) (A), the engine compartment wire harness connectors (B), the AM/FM/XM antenna lead connector (C), and the right side wire harness connectors (D).
9. From under the dash, disconnect the right TPMS subharness connector (A) and the front passenger's door wire harness connectors (B), and then detach the connector clip.
10. From under the dash, disconnect the climate control unit connector (A), and detach the wire harness clip (B).
11. Remove the clip, then remove the rear heater joint (A).
12. Remove the bolts (A, B), and remove the dashboard center brackets (C).
13. Remove the bolts of the A/T shift lever bracket (A), then separate the A/T shift lever bracket from the center frame (B) by moving it to the driver's side. Do not disconnect of the A/T shift cable.
14. From the driver's side, remove the bolt (A) from the brake pedal bracket, and remove the nut (B) from the body.
15. From the passenger's side, remove the bolts (C) from the holes of the steering hanger beam.
16. Remove the caps (D), then remove the bolts (E, F), and lift up on the dashboard/steering hanger beam (G) to release it from the guide pins (H) on the body.
NOTE: Before removing the dashboard/steering hanger beam, make sure all the harnesses have been disconnected.
17. Carefully remove the dashboard/steering hanger beam through the front door opening or you may damage it.
NOTE: Do not rest the dashboard on its lower center cover opening, or it may be damaged. Lay it on its front or back.
18. Install the dashboard/steering hanger beam in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Reinstall the center brackets on the center frame, and slightly tighten the mounting bolts. Reinstall the dashboard on the body, after tightening the dashboard mounting bolts and the nut, tighten the dashboard center brackets mounting bolts.
- Make sure the dashboard/steering hanger beam fits onto the guide pins correctly.
- Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the bolts securing the dashboard center brackets and the dashboard center frame before reinstallation.
- Before tightening the bolts, make sure the wire harnesses are not pinched.
- Make sure each connector is plugged in properly.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.
- Check for any DTCs that may have been set during repairs, and clear them.
- If necessary, adjust the A/T shift cable Adjustments.
