Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
STARTER VOLTAGE TOO LOW, CURRENT TOO HIGH1. Undercharged battery.
2. Starter armature commutator segments open circuit.
3. Dragging starter armature.
4. Shorted armature wiring.
5. Excessive engine drag.
ENGINE SPEED DURING CRANKING IS ABOVE 100 RPM
1. Loose battery terminals.
2. Loose starter terminals.
3. Excessively worn starter brushes.
4. Commutator segment open circuit.
5. Dirty or damaged helical spline or drive gear.
6. Faulty drive gear overrunning clutch.
STARTER DRIVE GEAR DOES NOT DISENGAGE FROM FLYWHEEL RING GEAR
1. Faulty solenoid plunger.
2. Faulty solenoid switch.
3. Dirty or damage overrunning clutch.
