Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Function Checks

Never drive vehicle while ALB checker is operating. A collision may result from a reduction or complete loss of braking ability.

The checker should be used through modes 0-6 on all models except 1991-93 Legend and 1992-93 Vigor, and modes 0-5 for 1991-93 Legend and 1992-93 Vigor, to confirm proper system operation under any of the following conditions:
1. After replacing or bleeding system fluid, 0 mode is not required.
2. After replacing any ALB system component.
3. After any body or suspension repair that may cause malfunctions within wires or sensors.

Function Test

1. Park vehicle on level ground with wheels blocked and parking brake set. On models equipped with manual transaxle, place in neutral. On models equipped with automatic transaxle, place in park.
2. With ignition switch off, disconnect 6-P inspection connector from connector cover on crossmember under passenger seat and connect 6-P inspection connector to ALB checker.
3. Start engine, then release parking brake.
4. Operate ALB checker as follows:
a. Turn mode switch to 0 on all models except 1992-93 Integra and Legend or 1 on 1992-93 Integra and Legend.
b. Push start test button. Test in progress light should appear.
c. In one or two seconds, all four monitor lights should come on. If not, checker is faulty.
d. Anti-lock warning lamp should not come on. If it does, checker harness to 6-P connector is faulty.
5. Set mode selector switch to 2, then depress brake pedal and push start test switch. Anti-lock warning lamp should not come on while test in progress light is on. There should be a brake pedal kickback. If there is no kickback, refer to ``Warning Lamp.''
6. On all models except 1991-93 Legend and 1992,93 Vigor, turn mode switch to 3, 4, 5 and 6, or 3, 4 and 5 for 1991-93 Legend and 1992,93 Integra and Vigor, then perform step 5 for each test mode position:
a. Mode 1 sends simulated signal 0 mph to 112.5 mph and back to 0 mph of each wheel to control unit to check check control unit self diagnosis circuit. There should be no kickback.
b. Mode 2 sends driving signal of each wheel, then sends lock signal to left rear wheel to control unit. There should be a kickback.
c. Mode 3 sends driving signal of each wheel, then sends lock signal to right rear wheel to control unit. There should be a kickback.
d. Mode 4 sends driving signal of each wheel, then sends lock signal to left front wheel to control unit. There should be a kickback.
e. Mode 5 sends driving signal of each wheel, then sends lock signal to right front wheel to control unit. There should be a kickback.
f. On all models except 1991-93 Legend and 1992,93 Integra and Vigor, Mode 6 sends driving signal of each wheel, then sends lock signal to both front wheels to control unit. There should be a strong kickback.
7. On all models, if little or no kickback is felt from brake pedal in modes 2-6, repeat functions test mode 1-6 several times before troubleshooting other components.
