Ignition Control Module: Testing and Inspection
NOTE: See COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS when self-diagnostic indicator blinks. The tachometer should operate normally. If the tachometer is not working correctly, this could be an indicator for a bad ignitor unit.
1. Disconnect the 4-P connector from the igniter unit.
Igniter Unit Input Test:
2. Turn the ignition switch ON. Check for voltage between the BLK/YEL wire and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
If there is no voltage, check the BLK/YEL wire for open or short between the ignition switch, ignition coil and igniter unit, repair as needed.
If there is voltage, go to step 3.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON. Check for voltage between the BLU wire and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
If there is no voltage, check the:
- BLU wire for open or short between the ignition switch, ignition coil and igniter unit.
- Ignition coil.
If there is voltage, go to step 4.
4. Check the RED/BLU wire for open or short between the PGM-FI ECU and igniter unit.
5. If all tests are normal, replace the igniter unit.
