Fast Idle Control Solenoid (A/T Only)

Fast Idle Control System Operation:

The fast idle control solenoid is mounted in the vacuum control box in the rear of the engine compartment. The solenoid is powered by Ign. 1 whenever the ignition switch is turned on. If coolant temperature drops below 14°F (-10°C) and engine speed is below 1750 RPM, the ECU provides a solenoid ground at terminal B2 for up to 20 seconds. When energized the solenoid allows a controlled air leak in the intake manifold. The extra air allowed into the engine raises engine speed to improve extreme cold idling.
