Power Locks: Description and Operation

Battery voltage is supplied at all times through fuse 44 to the power door lock control unit. The control unit is grounded at G3O1.

The power door lock control unit is designed to keep you from accidentally leaving the key in the ignition. When the ignition key switch is closed (key in ignition),the control unit will not allow the doors to be locked if one or both of the door switches are closed (either door open).

When the driver's door lock knob switch, or passenger's key cylinder switch in the latch assembly is moved to the lock or unlock position, the lock or unlock input of the control unit is grounded. The control unit then turns on the motors in both of the door latch assemblies, and both doors will lock or unlock.

You can lock or unlock the doors from outside the car by using the door key in the driver's or passenger's door lock switches. When you turn the key, the control unit turns on the motors in the door latch assemblies, opening and closing both doors.
