Buzzing Noise From the Exhaust Heat Shield

SYMPTOM

Buzzing noise from the engine area at approximately 3000 to 4000 mm.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The mounting bracket on the exhaust manifold for the heat shields is broken.

DIAGNOSIS

With the car on a lift, pull on the lower right and left sides of the exhaust manifold heat shields at the oxygen sensor. If the heat shields pull away from the manifold, the mounting bracket for the heat shields Is broken.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Install the exhaust manifold band listed under PARTS INFORMATION to secure the exhaust manifold heat shields.





1. Bend the exhaust manifold band in a circle; then install and tighten the mounting bolt supplied with the band.





2. Carefully bend the band into an oval to conform to. the shape of the exhaust manifold; then remove the mounting bolt.





3. Position the band around the exhaust manifold heat shields just above the oxygen sensor with the mounting bolt on the right side1 pointed up. Install the mounting bolt 1 and tighten it to 16 lb.ft.
