Entry Light Timer System
Battery voltage is applied to the entry light timer unit at all times through fuse 56 and, with the ignition switch in RUN or START through fuse 13. The entry light timer unit is grounded at G303. On LS models, with the headlight switch in PARK or HEAD, voltage is also applied to the unit through fuse 49.The entry light timer unit has inputs from both doors and the driver's door handle switch. On LS models, the unit also has inputs from the ignition key switch and the courtesy light brightness controller.
The entry light timer system is designed to make entry and exit easier. The system controls the operation of the front and rear ceiling lights (with switch in the DOOR position), ignition key cylinder light, left door key cylinder light, door courtesy lights, and footwell lights. See the individual lights listed below for a description of their operation.
Ignition Key Cylinder Light and Driver's Door Key Cylinder Light
Battery voltage through fuse 57 is applied at all times to both lights in this circuit. When you pull the driver's door handle part way out (to turn on the key cylinder light) or all the way out (to open the door), a separate ground path is provided to both lights by the entry light timer unit (see schematic), and both lights will come on, and stay on for several seconds afier the last door is closed.
Footwell, Door Courtesy, and Ceiling Lights
L models
Battery voltage from fuse 57 is applied to all the lights in this circuit and to the coil of the ceiling light relay. With any door open, the entry light timer unit will ground the ceiling light relay. The door courtesy lights and the ceiling lights will then have a ground path through the energized relay to ground G302, and the lights will come on.
The driver's footwell light is grounded by the WHT/BLK wire through the entry light timer unit (see schematic). The footwell light will remain on for several seconds after the last door is closed. The door courtesy and ceiling lights will go off immediately.
LS Model
Battery voltage is applied at all times through fuse 57 to all the lights in this circuit. With any door open, the entry light timer unit will provide a separate ground path through the BLK/WHT wire (see schematic) to the door courtesy lights, and ceiling lights, and the lights will go on. The lights will slowly fade out a few seconds after the last door is closed.
The footwell and door courtesy lights serve two functions on LS models. With any door open, or key removed from the ignition switch, the entry light timer unit will provide ground through the WHT/BLK wire (see schematic) to the lights, and the lights will come on. The lights will stay on for several seconds after the last door is closed. With the headlight switch in PARK or HEAD, the entry light timer unit will again provide ground to the lights through the WHT/BLK wire, illuminating the interior. The brightness of the lights can then be adjusted by using the courtesy light controller. The lights will go to full brightness when any door is opened, regardless of the setting on the courtesy light controller.
If any of the doors is left open, the entry light timer unit will shut off all the lights in the circuit after 30 minutes.
