Transmission Control Systems: Description and Operation

The automatic transmission is a combination of a three element torque converter with a lock-up clutch and a 2-shaft electronically controlled automatic transmission which provides four forward speeds and one reverse speed. The entire unit is positioned in line with the engine.

The electronic control system consists of the powertrain control module (PCM), and four solenoid valves. Shifting and lock-up are electronically controlled for comfortable driving under all conditions.
