Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
PURPOSE/OPERATION
This engine is equipped with a multi-function sensor assembly called the TDC/CKP/CYP sensor. It is an assembly made up of three separate sensors: the Top Dead Center Sensor (TDC), the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP), and the Cylinder Position Sensor (CYP).The Crankshaft Position Sensor determines timing for fuel injection and ignition of each cylinder and also detects engine speed. The Top Dead Center Sensor determines ignition timing at start-up (cranking) and when crank angle is abnormal. The Cylinder Position Sensor detects the position of No. 1 cylinder for sequential fuel injection to each cylinder.
