Transaxle Replace

1. On models equipped with radio coded theft protection system, refer to Vehicle Damage Warnings for system disarming and arming procedures. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
2. Disconnect battery ground and positive cables, then remove battery and battery box.
3. Remove underhood ABS fuse/relay box.
4. Remove sub ground cable.
5. Remove heat shield.
6. Remove distributor.
7. Disconnect and remove control box. Do not disconnect vacuum hoses from control box.
8. Raise and support vehicle.
9. Remove torque converter cover.
10. Remove then plug driveplate bolts.
11. Disconnect transaxle sub harness connector and ground cable.
12. Remove transaxle housing mounting bolts and 26 mm shim.
13. Remove transaxle under guard.
14. Drain transaxle into a suitable container, reinstall drain plug using new gasket.
15. Support transaxle, remove transaxle mount and bracket.
16. Remove ATF cooler hoses and turn up to prevent fluid from leaking out.
17. Shift selector lever into park position.
18. Remove secondary cover and 33 mm sealing bolt.

19. Remove extension shaft from differential using extension shaft puller tool No. 07LAC-PW50100, or equivalent, Fig. 12.
20. Remove exhaust pipe and exhaust manifold stay.
21. Remove shift cable cover, then control lever.
22. Remove shift cable holder from side of housing.
23. Disconnect shift position sensor connector and harness.
24. Remove transaxle mid mount nuts.
25. With a suitable jack under transaxle, raise transaxle enough to release weight off mounts, then remove mid mounts and mid mount spacer.
26. Remove transaxle housing mounting bolts.
27. Remove torque converter cover mounting bolt on torque converter housing side. Do not remove torque converter cover mounting bolts on differential carrier side or torque converter cover.
28. Pull transaxle away from engine until it clears dowel pins, then lower it out of vehicle.
29. Reverse procedure to install.
