Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
WARNING: DO NOT smoke while working on the fuel system. Keep open flame away from your work area. Make sure the engine is OFF before relieving fuel pressure.NOTE: The factory radio has a coded theft protection circuit. Obtain the anti-theft code number and record the radio station presets before disconnecting the battery cable. Enter the code and reset the radio stations and clock after completion of the service.
Fuel System Service Bolt/Fuel Filter:
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Place a shop towel under the Fuel Filter.
3. Relieve the fuel pressure using the service check bolt:
a. Remove the fuel tank filler cap.
b. Use a 12mm box end wrench on the 6mm service bolt at the top of the fuel filter, while holding the special banjo bolt with a 17mm wrench.
c. Place a rag or shop towel over the 6mm service bolt and SLOWLY loosen the 6mm service bolt one complete turn.
Fuel Filter:
3. Remove the 12 mm banjo bolt and the fuel feed pipe from the filter.
4. Remove the fuel filter clamp and the fuel filter.
5. Re-assemble in reverse order using NEW washers on the banjo bolt and thoroughly cleaning the flared end of the metal fuel line.
6. Tighten as follows:
SERVICE BOLT: 12 Nm (9 lb-ft)
BANJO BOLT: 28 Nm (20 lb-ft)
FUEL LINE: 38 Nm (28 lb-ft)
BRACKET CLAMP: 10 Nm (7 lb-ft)
7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
