Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

WARNING:
- Do not smoke while working on fuel system. Keep open flame away from your work area.
- While replacing the fuel filter, be careful to keep a safe distance between battery terminals and any tools.

The fuel filter should be replaced whenever the fuel pressure drops below the specified value (275 - 324 kPa, 2.8 - 3.3 kgf/cm2, 40 - 47 psi with the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose disconnected) after making sure that the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator are OK.

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset buttons.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery negative terminal.
3. Place a shop towel under and around the fuel filter.
4. Relieve fuel pressure.
5. Support the fuel filter with a wrench, as shown, then remove the 12 mm banjo bolt and the fuel feed pipe from the fuel filter.
6. Remove the fuel filter clamp and fuel filter.
7. When assembling, use new washers, as shown.

NOTE: Clean the flared joint of high pressure hoses thoroughly before reconnecting them.

8. Reconnect the battery negative cable, enter the antitheft code for the radio, then enter the customer's radio station presets.
