Squeak While Turning the Steering Wheel
(Supersedes 96-055, dated December 10, 1996)

SYMPTOM

A squeak comes from the steering column while turning the steering wheel.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Not enough grease between the pinion shaft and the grommet.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Apply DC111 (see REQUIRED MATERIALS) between the pinion shaft and the grommet.





1. Remove the steering joint cover.





2. Use a small screwdriver to insert the grease between the pinion shaft and the grommet.

3. Reinstall the steering joint cover.

4. Turn the steering wheel to verify that the squeak is gone.
