Driver's Seat Rocks

SYMPTOM

The driver's seat feels as though it is rocking slightly on its mounts.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The seat's front up-down motor mounting nuts may be loose.

DIAGNOSIS

Confirm that the front up-down motor mounting nuts are loose:

1. Raise the front of the seat cushion to its highest position.

2. Have an assistant rock back and forth in the seat as you look at the front up-down motor on the seat frame.

3. If the motor moves relative to the seat frame while the seat is rocked, perform the CORRECTIVE ACTION.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Tighten the two nuts that attach the front up-down motor to the seat frame.

1. Move the seat to its full-forward position, and raise the seat cushion to its full-up position.

2. Pry the screw cap out of the recline cover, remove the two screws with a Phillips screwdriver, then move the cover forward. Keep its electrical connectors attached.

3. With a 12 mm socket attached to a long-handled ratchet, tighten the two mounting nuts on the front up-down motor.

4. Reinstall the recline cover.

5. Make sure the rocking movement is gone (see DIAGNOSIS).
