DIAGNOSIS

Press and hold the power window switch in the down position while carefully listening to the power window motor.

^ If no noise is heard and the motor is inoperative, proceed with normal troubleshooting procedures in the service manual.

^ If the motor appears to be stalled (you hear a sound that is the same as when a window is closed and reaches the fully closed position), perform the REPAIR PROCEDURE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the door panel of the affected door.

2. Disconnect the power window motor connector.

3. Verify the condition of the power window motor:

Driver's Window: Apply battery voltage (+) to the RED/BLU wire and ground (-) to the RED/YEL wire of the 4-pin connector; the window should go down.

Any Other Window: Apply battery voltage (+) to the BLU/WHT wire and ground (-) to the BLUE/RED wire of the 2-pin connector; the window should go down.

4. Based on the condition of the power window's motor, do this:

^ If the motor works while applying battery voltage, disregard this information, and continue with normal troubleshooting.

^ If the motor doesn't work, replace the regulator assembly as described in the 1996-97 3.5RL Service Manual.
