Key Stuck in the Ignition Switch

SYMPTOM

The key cannot be removed from the ignition switch even though the shift lever is firmly in Park.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The pin on the shift lever does not fully engage the parking pin switch. Because of this, the switch does not deactivate a solenoid in the ignition switch that allows the key to be removed.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Adjust the parking pin switch.

1. Remove the center console.

2. Loosen the parking pin switch mounting screw. Rotate the switch counterclockwise as far as it will go (about 0.5 mm), then tighten the mounting screw.

3. Reinstall the center console.
