Trunk Lid Does Not Close Properly
SYMPTOM
The trunk lid is difficult to close or it will not close.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The striker is bent.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the striker.

WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION
In warranty: The normal warranty applies.
Out of warranty: Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
DIAGNOSIS
Hit the striker with a dead blow hammer towards the rear of the vehicle (one or two hits should be sufficient). Check the operation of the trunk lid.
If the trunk lid does not close properly, disregard this bulletin, and look for other possible causes.
If the trunk lid closes properly, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove the rear trim panel (see page 20-43 of the 1996-00 3.5RL Service Manual).
2. Remove the striker cover.
3. Remove the striker (two bolts).
4. Install the new striker, making sure you place it directly over the original striker position. Torque the bolts to 9.8 Nm (7.2 lb-ft).
5. Reinstall the striker cover.
6. Check the operation of the trunk lid, and adjust the striker if needed.
7. Reinstall the rear trim panel.
