DIAGNOSIS
1. Remove the HDD from the control unit, and inspect the HDD for physical damage. If the HDD is physically damaged, replace it.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
3. Touch the OK icon on the disclaimer screen, and wait for the Main Menu to come up.
- If the screen stays black or has a yellow HDD error message, or the system will not go to the Main Menu, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B.
- If the Main Menu display comes up, continue to REPAIR PROCEDURE A.
REPAIR PROCEDURE A
1. From the Main Menu, access the Set-Up screen. On the 3.5RL, push the SETUP button on the right side of the display screen; on the 3.2TL touch the Setup icon on the screen.
2. From the Set-Up screen, access the System Information screen. On the 3.5RL, touch the Info icon; on the 3.2TL, touch the Others icon and then touch the Information icon.
3. Check the software version that is installed on the HDD as listed at the bottom of the System Information screen. The software must be version 3.48 or higher for the 3.5RL, and 1.14 or higher for the 3.2TL.
- If the software version is lower than 3.48/1.14 rewrite the HDD with the latest version available from Acuralink 2000. Refer to Service Bulletin 97-016, 1997-99 3.5RL: TQI of the Navigation System, or Service Bulletin 98-023, 1999 3.2TL; TQI of the Navigation System.
- If the software version is 3.48/1.14 or higher, ask the customer to clarify the symptoms. Refer to the Navigation System troubleshooting section of the appropriate service manual.
NOTE:
Certain circumstances and system limitations will result in occasional vehicle positioning errors. Some customers may think the errors indicate a problem with the navigation system when, in fact, the system is normal. Refer to the Navigation System Owner's Manual for more information.
REPAIR PROCEDURE B
1. If the navigation system will not activate or has a yellow Hard Disk Drive Error message, force-start the display. Refer to the 1996-99 3.5RL Service Manual, or to the 1999 3.2TL Service Manual for the force-starting procedure.
2. When the System Links screen appears, touch the RETURN icon on the screen.
3. From the Diagnosis Menu, access the Unit Check screen by touching the UNIT CHECK icon.
4. From the Unit Check screen, access the System History screen by touching the SYSTEM HISTORY icon.
5. Scan each line looking for error codes 0801 or 0810, and BPB error codes; if needed, use the joystick to scroll down and right. The illustration below shows examples of 0801, 0810, and BPB error codes.
- If an error code 0801, 0810, or BPB is found, replace the HDD with a remanufactured unit. Refer to Service Bulletin 96-025, Navigation System Component Exchange Program, for parts and parts ordering information.
- If 0801, 0810, or BPB error codes are not found, rewrite the software on the HDD with the latest version available from Acuralink 2000.
NOTE:
To install or rewrite the software on the HDD, refer to Service Bulletin 97-016, 1997-99 3.5RL: TQI of the Navigation System, or Service Bulletin 98-023,1999 3.2TL: TQI of the Navigation System.
