MIL On With DTC P0133 or P0153
(Supersedes 99-025, dated June 5, 2000)
SYMPTOM
The MIL is on, and DTC P0133 or P0153 (left or right primary oxygen sensor, slow response) is stored.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The PCM software is not responding correctly to the input from the oxygen sensor.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Use the PGM Tester with SN010 or later software and replace the PCM with an updated unit.

Out of warranty:
Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove the passenger's side door sill molding, and pull back the carpet.
2. Remove the PCM cover (four nuts).
4. Plug the electrical connectors into the new PCM. Install the PCM.
5. Reinstall the PCM cover. Torque the mounting nuts to 9.8 Nm (7.2 lb-ft).
6. Reinstall the carpet and the door sill molding.
3.5RL Only - Continue through the following steps
7. Obtain the five character password code for the program card.
8. Connect the PGM Tester of the Data Link Connector. Make sure the PGM Tester has software version SN 902 or later.
9. Check the Tester's setup information for the correct date and country entry.
10. Select # 5 (IMMOBI) from the SYSTEM SELECT menu.
11. From the TEST MODE MENU - IMM select # 3 (REWRITING).
12. From the REWRITING MENU - MM, select # 2 (ECM) and continue to follow the screen prompts.
