Shift Cable: Service and Repair

Replacement

WARNING:
- Make sure lifts, jacks, and safety stands are placed properly.
- Apply the parking brake, and block the rear wheels so the vehicle will not roll off the stands and fall on you while working under it.


1. Raise the front of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands.
2. Set the parking brake, and block both rear wheels securely.
3. Shift the transmission into the N position.
4. Remove the center console.
5. Shift the transmission into the 1 position.





6. Remove the self-locking nut and shift cable end collar, then remove the shift cable from the shift lever link.

CAUTION: Take care not to bend the shift cable.

7. Pull the carpet back to expose the secondary H02S connector. Disconnect the connector, then push it to outside.

NOTE: The secondary H02S connector is located under the passenger's seat.





8. Remove the exhaust pipe A bracket, then remove exhaust pipe A.
9. Remove the secondary H02S harness cover, then remove the three way catalytic converter.





10. Remove the heat shields.





11. Remove the shift cable bracket.

CAUTION: Take care not to bend the shift cable.





12. Remove the shift cable guide bracket.





13. Remove the shift cable cover mounting bolts.
14. Remove the shift solenoid valve/A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve harness connector and clamp from the shift cable cover.
15. Remove the shift cable cover from the transmission housing.
16. Remove the shift cable holder with the shift cable from the shift cable holder base.
17. Remove the control lever from the control shaft, then remove the shift cable.
18. Remove the shift cable holder from the shift cable.
19. Install the new shift cable in the reverse order of removal.

CAUTION: Take care not to bend the shift cable when installing it.

20. Check the shift lever operation after installation.
21. If shift lever adjustment is required, remove the center console, and adjust the link adjuster.
