Brakes Squeal During Light Applications
(Supersedes 97-025, dated March 10, 1998)

PROBLEM

The brakes squeal when you lightly depress the brake pedal.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the front and rear brake pads. [NEW]

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Technical Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

PARTS INFORMATION

Front Brake Pad Set: P/N 45022-SX0-J00

Rear Brake Pad Set:
3.5RL - P/N 43022-SX0-A5O
2.5TL/3.2TL - P/N 43022-5V5-305 [NEW]

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the old brake pads. (Refer to section 19 of the appropriate Service Manual.)





2. Apply Molykote M77 on the back of the brake pads and on both sides of the pad shims.

3. Install the new brake pads and shims, making sure the pad retainers are properly positioned in the caliper bracket and the wear indicator is on the inside of the caliper.

4. Test-drive the vehicle, and make sure the squealing noise is gone.
