Ignition Switch: Service and Repair
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations, precautions, and procedures in the SRS section before performing repairs or service.1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset buttons.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable, then disconnect the positive cable, and wait at least three minutes.
3. Remove the dashboard lower cover and knee bolster.
4. Remove the steering column covers.
Electrical Switch Replacement:
5. Disconnect the connectors from the switch.
6. Remove the column holder mounting bolts and nuts.
7. Lower the steering column assembly.
8. Center-punch each of the two shear bolts, and drill their heads off with a 5 mm (3/16 in) drill bit.
CAUTION: Do not damage the switch body when removing the shear bolts.
9. Remove the shear bolts from the switch body, then remove the steering lock assembly.
Electrical Switch Replacement:
10. Remove the three screws, and replace the electrical switch.
11. Install in the reverse order of removal (Refer steering lock installation).
