Ignition Timing: Testing and Inspection
Ignition Timing Inspection1. Check the idle speed, and adjust it if necessary (see Fuel and emissions).
2. Remove the service check connector 2P (GRN/BLU and RED wires) from the connector holder located under the dash on the front passenger side, then connect the SCS service connector (T/N 07PAZ - 0010100) to it.
3. Start the engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm with no load, shift lever in N or P until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
4. Connect the timing light to the No.1 ignition wire, then point the light toward the pointer on the timing belt cover.
5. Check the ignition timing under a no load condition; headlights, blower fan, rear window defogger, and air conditioner are not operating. If the ignition timing differs from the specification below, replace the ECM or PCM.
Ignition Timing:
10° ± 2° BTDC (RED) during idling in N or P
6. Disconnect the SCS service connector from the service check connector.
